  6th Grade Objectives (Ukulele lesson) Students will be able to perform one- and two-finger ukulele chords with a steady beat and play along with a recorded ukulele play-along to demonstrate rhythmic consistency and chord accuracy. In chapter 4, the three major points discussed that impact curriculum design are self-regulation of learning, memory, and executive function. Self-regulated learning impacts curriculum design because the more regulated students are, the more likely they are to successfully engage in their learning. Also, memory as reconstruction impacts curriculum design because students need to be able to reconstruct knowledge in a variety of ways, such as projects, essays, discussions, etc. The curriculum should be structured to be more engaging. Another major point discussed is executive functioning.   Authentic Intellectual Work/Authentic Instruction & Assessment   The nature of Authentic Intellectual Work is for students to make meaning from the content, explain their ideas, extend beyond the classroom, connect to the discipline’s knowledge base, and apply it through hands-on experiences. Also, Newman, King, and Carmichael (2007) explain that “authentic intellectual work involves original application of knowledge and skills, rather than just routine use of facts and procedures” (p. 3).   Hello everyone! My name is Anthony Howard, and I go by AJ. I’m from Chicago and teach in Highland Park, Illinois, which is a nearby suburb of the city. I’m currently in my fourth year teaching middle school music. As a music educator, I’ve taught general music to this point and will take on a new role as the band and orchestra teacher at my school next school year. This master's in curriculum and instruction will be my first master's degree, and I’m excited to use all of the new skills and knowledge learned to better serve my students.
